SteffyMX started in 1991 while I was racing SX and Outdoor Nationals across the U.S. and Canada. It was great working with the riders but I was still trying to focus on my racing and family.
I learned a lot from some of the best riders and coach's in the motocross industry Jim Pomeroy and Gary Bailey. I listened to my Dad who was hard on me but pushed me and helped with my desire to win. Motocross is a sport that is very unique as it really depends a lot on the rider much more then the equipment. You don't have to have the fastest or the newest bike to be competitive. What you must have, is desire to learn and the desire to get better.
I took the end of the 90 off from doing motocross schools and started to focus on my family. I started to coach my son's Baseball teams then Soccer teams. This team coaching was a lot of fun and I learned a lot about coaching and how to help make better players. The really interesting thing I found was that it really didn't matter what I was coaching the coaching was the same. Learn the fundamentals, get really good at the fundamentals and you had a successful season. This really is no different then what I teach in my motocross schools, the better you are at the fundamentals of motocross the more races you win and the more championships you collect.
